Claudio Altamirano


Claudio's journey into the world of samba began at the age of 15 when he joined the Stockholm based group Unidos do Samba. Ever since, samba has become his life's passion. While he is skilled in playing all the samba percussion instruments, his main instrument of choice is the caixa de guerra.


In 2003, Claudio co-founded bloco (group) Maravilha do Samba in Stockholm, which has become his ongoing source of inspiration and dedication. Additionally, since 2016, he has taken on the role of musical director and Mestre for SES (Swedish Encontro de Samba), showcasing his expertise and leadership skills in the swedish samba community.


Throughout his musical career, Claudio has had the opportunity to collaborate and perform with prestigious samba schools in Rio de Janeiro, including Estácio de Sá, Portela, União da Ilha, Unidos de Vila Isabel, Unidos do Viradouro, and Acadêmicos da Rocinha. Not only has he made his mark on the carnival in Rio de Janeiro, he has also performed in Sweden and most of Europe,


Over the years, Claudio's dedication to promoting the authentic Rio-style samba has led him to organize workshops across the country, bringing in renowned Mestres from Rio de Janeiro to share their knowledge and expertise. In 2017, he embarked on a workshop tour with Mestre Chuvisco from Estácio de Sá, visiting cities like Geneva, Helsinki, Paderborn, and Uppsala.


Claudio's love for samba has taken him to various carnivals in Sweden and Europe, and he travels to the carnival in Rio de Janeiro each year to seek inspiration. Additionally, he has preformed with some of Rio de Janeiros best samba musicians including, Mestre Jorjão, Serrinha Raiz, Hudzon Luiz, Leandro Santos, Digão Do Cavaco, Dandara Ventapane, Raoni Ventapane, Serginho do Porto, Emerson Dias, Dowglas Diniz, Farofa Carioca, Elza Soares, Marquinhos Sathan, Monarco da Portela. 


Overall, Claudio's unwavering passion is to preserve and spread the authentic Rio-style samba, and his dedication to this art form is evident in his performances, collaborations, workshops, and commitment to continuously seek inspiration and elevate the samba community.
